Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is another Diabetic Eye Diseases (DED). It results from thin, abnormal blood vessels leaking fluid into the center of the macula. The macula is the center of the eye where sharp, forward vision occurs. The leaked fluid causes the macula to swell, leading to blurry vision. DME becomes more prevalent as DED progresses. About half of the people with proliferative retinopathy (the most advanced stage of DRP) also have DME. Despite this, DME can develop at any stage of a diabetic eye disease without prior warning symptoms.
TheraKine's OptiKine⢠is targeted to help patients with DME.
